#%@$ you, Cancer

Sometimes we just gotta say that out loud. Especially after reading about the daily struggles that our friend, Kezia Fitzgerald and her husband Mike are facing. Their 16 month-old daughter, Saoirse, is battling neuroblastoma cancer. Kezia posts often about the ordeal on her blog, New Mom… New Cancer. For a while, there was a fair amount of good news – or at least as much good as bad. Saoirse had been responding to some of the treatments and mom & dad were enjoying her doing typical toddler stuff. But Kezia’s most recent recounting of one particular night is harrowing. You begin to imagine the determination and vigilance that’s called for. The parents must always be on their toes, even when things are going smoothly. Kezia does a great job on her blog of tempering the tales of stress with some wonderful moments where you read about Saoirse playing with other children and laughing at the family dog. She bounces back at times with a resiliency that most of us just dream about.
Money is still a major issue. Kezia has not worked for some time and Mike only occasionally so that they can care for their daughter. They’ve had some fundraising help, but the medical bills are continuous. Their next fundraiser is a Fun Run/Walk and Silent Auction on Sunday, October 30 from 8:00am – 11:00am in Andover, MA. Click here for the Facebook page so you can sign up and donate a couple of hours to a little girl who really needs your help.
Here’re some photos of the family during one their easier hospital stays. The photos were taken by CNN.com for a recent story they did about Saoirse.

You MUST see this video about the work of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski in curing cancer and the fight he has been in for decades to bring this to the public.
