Daniel Kornrumpf will have you in stitches

These embroidered portraits by Daniel Kornrumpf have been making the internet rounds and gaining him a lot of attention. After noticing him more than once, we did a little digging and found that Kornrumpf is a Massachusetts-
based artist. He got his BFA from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, He’s currently Adjunct professor at Newbury College in Brookline, MA as well as at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. After posting about Judith G. Klausner last week, we’re beginning to wonder if MA is a center for the current movement of craft based art.

When viewing Kornrumpf’s portraits online, you’ll often be looking at a close-up because they’re actually quite small, centered on a piece of linen 42″ X 36″. The detail view shows how painterly his style is, imitating real brushstrokes. If you’ve ever seen the giant portraits by Chuck Close, you’ll probably be reminded of those.
