Up until recently, we thought that Duane Hanson was the king of hyper-realistic sculptors of people. But then we discovered the work of Evan Penny. Penny takes the idea of sculptures that look as tho’ they could talk to you, and adds another level. His works are primarily self portraits and they often play with perceptions. Some are of what he’d look like in old-age. Some are disguised, and some are stretched or contorted as tho’ a computer program has manipulated them – but all with a photo-realistic quality. Truly unique and memorable.
